“The Flash Movie” Is Bad for the DC Universe

Though the movie has favorable reviews, it seems WB is struggling to capitalize on DC fans. Perhaps, betraying the fact that DC fans support the DC Universe but only Snyder fans actually watch the movies.

Nonetheless, we think the marketing and Ezra Miller’s legal issues doomed the movie. Moreover, the fact that the movie adapts the fans’ favorite Flashpoint in recent years in order to unimpressively reboot its universe instead of as part of an over-arching story does not work.

Perhaps, shared universes worked for Marvel because Marvel heroes for the most part live either in New York or in space and have well-defined universes. For DC heroes, the characters are so big that having them align with each other and so powerful only works with a very overwhelming threat like Darkseid in Final Crisis.

Marvel heroes are for entertainment and pop corn, but DC heroes are archetypes that raise philosophical questions. Certainly, we must say that the DC Universe cannot follow Marvel’s shared universe formula without first introducing the multiverse. Perhaps, Flash of Two Worlds would have worked better.

FAVORITE FLASH MOMENT

As fans celebrate #the-flash-movie, we celebrate one of the best DCAU movies ever: The Flashpoint Paradox!

At the beginning of the movie, Barry’s mom’s car breaks down and they are stranded on the road. In order to comfort the young child, Nora Allen teaches him a version of the Serenity prayer.

Indeed, the movie is about #flash learning wisdom about the power and the consequences of saving his mother from death.

WE SAY THANKS FOR THE DCEU…

The Flash Movie releases June 16th and is thought to reboot the DC Universe as an homage to Flashpoint (2011). While the DC Extended Universe was not well-received, it did have a passionate following.

As the Snyderverse comes to a close, we thank Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder for a thrilling ride and choosing actors that carry over to the DC Universe.

Hopefully, the DC Universe will correct the storytelling and editing issues from the previous universe.
