Discuss the Superman #214 Key Issue

We continue with the Best DC Comics Artists and this August our showcase is Jim Lee. With The Mightiest Punch! having concluded, #superman ranked Supernatural Being in the Power Hierarchy. With an impressive competition and fan-votes, the Man of Steel made it to the Top 10 in the ranking competition.

Since fans are joining the League of Heroes, we are inviting fans to collect key issues from The Mightiest Punch! Certainly, Superman (2005) #214 in the For Tomorrow storyline is a key issue for the following reasons:

  • The Destruction of Metropia.
  • Flashbacks of Superman inventing the Vanishing Device.

Let’s briefly discuss the issue:

Superman has found a way to travel to Metropia and has identified the cause of the Vanishings. When he realizes that his Father’s Dream may be impossible on Earth, he is on a collision course with an old enemy who only wants destruction and world conquest.

Brian Azzarello and Jim Lee craft a Superman with religious symbology and I think the parallelism between the Vanishings and Krypton’s promise for paradise are clear. At the same time, I think the battle and the flashbacks show just how much Superman is challenged mentally and emotionally. Perhaps, the creative team crafted a sci-fi thriller which works.

Discuss the Superman #207 Key Issue

With The Mightiest Punch! having concluded, #superman ranked Supernatural Being in the Power Hierarchy. With an impressive competition and fan-votes, the Man of Steel made it to the Top 10 in the ranking competition.

Since fans are joining the League of Heroes, we are inviting fans to collect key issues from The Mightiest Punch! Certainly, Superman (2004) #207 in the For Tomorrow storyline is a key issue for the following reasons:

  • Equus’ Second Appearance.
  • Flashbacks of the Superman-Equus battle, and the meeting with Orr.

Let’s briefly discuss the issue:

Superman has intervened in the Middle East to stop a war as he investigates the Vanishings. Though the morality of his actions is questioned, I think the issue is great for the importance of the hero to the world and his influence as a savior of humanity.

Brian Azzarello and Jim Lee craft a Superman with religious symbology and I think the parallelism between the Vanishings and the End of the World are clear. At the same time, I think the battle and storytelling are well-handled though cryptic. Importantly, we get added debate as to whether Superman is Faster Than A Speeding Bullet. Perhaps, the editorial team crafted a sci-fi thriller which works.
