Superman has had a storied history over his 85 years since his first publication. Perhaps, the Golden Age and Silver Age featured him at the height of his popularity. Since Post-Crisis, the hero has come to incarnate idealism and humanity for everyone.
At the same time, one story that has come to truly define Modern Superman is when the hero finally became a biological father and Lois Lane a biological mother in Convergence: Superman (2015) #2. Truly, it shows how the best of an alien civilization and the best of Earth can produce something wondrous, a miracle!
